VOLUNTEER SERVICE

Serving my community has been a focal point for most of my life. My volunteer service varies widely in areas such as librarianship, archives, museums, digital collections, photography, audio and video production, walks/runs for cancer research, website design and marketing for non-profits, visiting the elderly, outreach events and more.

GIVING BACK TO MY COMMUNITY

Giving back to my community allows me to help others, learn more about myself, connect with people and use my professional skills to help local organizations and collections.

My volunteerships include working with digital assets for the Natural History Museum Los Angeles County online collections; accessioning print archival records for the Hawaii State Archives; digitizing herbarium plant specimen for the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, HI to provide access for global research; photography and website design for non-profit organizations at Universities and churches; assisting in community outreach programs such as Beach Streets and Summer Reading programs through the Long Beach Public Library and as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, create metadata for digital collections made available online through the DAR library.

MISSION & VISION

To be engaged in my community by using my professional skills and enthusiasm to provide volunteer assistance to local non-profit organizations.

Processing Archival Collections @ HSA

While working as a volunteer at the Hawaii State Archives, I processed approximately thirteen (13) linear feet of the Administrative Rules collection so that it could be accessed by the public. This included re-housing to archival folders and boxes, labeling in pencil, removing all metal clips, staples and binders to prevent further rust, inputting descriptive metadata into a spreadsheet ingestion into the holdings database. I also created an informational video which highlights the archive, its holdings and provides basic user instructions on accessing records online and in person.

Peace Corps Training Collection @ UHM

For the University of Hawai’i Archives, I created a print timeline of depicting deployments and a digital video highlighting still images from the Peace Corps Training collection, which is being housed and maintained at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Archive. These creations were used at the donor reception held at Hamilton Library on Sunday, September 21, 2014.
