Today I joined some of my classmates from LIS 652, Introduction to Archival Management on a tour of the State of Hawai’i Record Center lead by Carol Silva, Records Manager for the State of Hawai’i. We had a wonderful time learning about how the center obtains, processes, preserves and stores the materials received by the various State of Hawai’i executive and legislative branches. We also learned more about record management policies and the state’s record retention schedules which help to identify the minimum amount of time specific records shall be maintained and their final disposition/destruction.

Mahalo to Carol and the State of Hawai’i for showing us around and teaching us more about record management at the State level.
